  • Printed copies of the 2017-2018 Smarter ELA/Literacy and Mathematics Online Summative Test Administration Manual (TAMs) will arrive in districts by Feb 6, 2018. TAMs are bundled by school, and shipped to districts. One district box is marked with a label indicating it contains the district packing slips with a summary by school.  Districts may order additional TAMs through the DeSSA Helpdesk (1-877-560-8331 or DeSSAHelpDesk@air.org) beginning Feb 6th.  A small number of additional TAMs were printed, and will be available to meet requests while quantities last. TAMs are also available online on the portal at: https://de.portal.airast.org/resources/manuals-smarter/

TAMs are not secure materials and do not need to be returned. We ask schools and districts to recycle the TAMs at the end of the window.

  • Because of recent changes made by Google, users with Chromebooks made in 2017 or later who do not have an Enterprise or Education license will not be able to use those machines for assessments. Google no longer allows users without these licenses to set up kiosk mode, which is necessary to run the AIR Secure Browser. Since many Chromebook users have Enterprise or Education licenses, this only affects a small number of users, including users in Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) states.

Note that this change restricting kiosk mode only applies to Chromebooks made in 2017 or later, and not the Chrome OS software. You can use any Chrome OS version on hardware from year 2016 or earlier and will not have this problem.

AIR and Google are actively looking into options for using the Secure Browser on unmanaged Chromebooks made in 2017 or later, but until further notice, district test and technology coordinators should ensure that all Chromebooks made in 2017 or later are set as managed devices if they are to be used for testing.
